John was not only the husband of Priscilla Andrews, but was also her second cousin once removed.
John Sr. was the first member of the Andrews family to reach North Carolina. He came to Montgomery County from Brunswick County VA with his large family about 1787, hard on the heels of his Father-In-Law, John Scarborough, Sr., who came in 1785. Included in this pioneer family were married sons John, Jr. and David II, and daughters Sallie, and Lucretia. His eldest son Alexander arrived in January 1795 with his large family. About 1804, John Sr. with four of his sons, David II, James, George and Anderson with their families and some kinfolk accompanied by James Scarborough, Sr., James, Jr., John Scarborough, Jr., and their families joined the stampede to the new state of Tennessee and settled permanently there in Stewart County. Alexander, John Sr.'s eldest son, remained in the Pee Dee area where he owned a large amount of land. The Andrews family subsequently is descended from him and his sons. Information is from Joan Scarborough from California. Her information is from some Brunswick County VA Deed papers. She found this information while researching her Scarborough line; Joseph's son, John Sr., married a Scarborough. Some research leads to believe that Joseph came to Brunswick County Virginia from London , perhaps with his brothers, aboard the ship "Carolina" sometime between May-August 1774. He was about 35 years old at the time. Birth & death dates uncertain as dates conflict with the above.
