Hello! Thanks for visiting my Stewart's Genealogy Site!

My name is Douglas Keith Stewart. My Father is Douglas Clarence Stewart and my Mother is Mildred Louise (Andrews) Stewart. This is my genealogy website.

I got my first computer about 10 years ago, and one of the first computer programs I bought was a genealogy program. I 've been hooked ever since! I've made many discoveries about my family heritage, and am constantly seeking more. This website was put together to share some of this information that I have found.

I want to admit that (try as I might for accuracy and completeness) there are errors and shortcomings in the family tree information here. Genealogy isn't an exact science, as a lot of information is passed along by word of mouth due to a lack of hard documentation, and memories are faint at times. Also, there have been births and deaths that have not been updated in my information. That is where you can help me out. Please e-mail me here with corrections, or if you find that information is incomplete or that I need to include new family members. I want to keep the information here as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

Family tree information here has been "privatized", meaning that I respect the privacy of living relatives. Information about these relatives will not include personal information such as birthdates, etc. Though this information is public and readily available at the Registrar of Deeds where you were born, it will not be posted here.

This site is an ongoing project and I will continually be adding, updating and changing content, so check back often. Feedback is welcome. Let me know how I can improve the site and make it more interresting. If there is something else you would like to see here, let me know.

Current Research

These are some of the family lines that I'm currently researching:

• Stewart: My Stewart ancestors have personaly been the most elusive. Most of what I have learned has been fron a few living relatives that have spent much time and energy doing the research. To them, saying thank-you hardly expresses my gratitude. Essie May (Herring) Stewart has provided me with information that allowed me to document my Great Grandfather's siblings and their families, as well as go back another generation to my G-G-Grandfather John Wesley Stewart. While doing some searching on the internet, I ran across a family history compiled by Tom Stewart of North Carolina. Tom has done a tremendous amount of research and has traced our ancestors back to a Samuel Stewart. According to his research, Samuel was the first Stewart of our line to settle in America, leaving Londonberry, Ireland sometime before 1759. From their information and information derived from census documents, I share here what I have discovered. Be sure to read the family history report as well as the notes on Samuel Stewart compiled by Tom Stewart. Read the histories and notes here and here. • Andrews: My Andrews research has been more lucrative. I've traced them back to Brunswick County VA into the early 1800's. More.
• Richardson: My Richardson information was the easiest to find as there were other individuals doing research that shared theirs with me.
• Benson: My Benson research has not been very productive, but sources are out there living and I just need to pick their brain. Annie Benson, a sister of my Grandmother Bessie Benson, has compiled a short history of my Benson ancestors. Read it here. Streetie Benson was a brother to my Grandmother Bessie Benson. He taped an oral history of his memories that provides a glimpse of the his childhood life. It was transcribed by a nephew, Eric Brady. It can be read here.
